1. What are soft and hard materials? Give example.

Ans.The materials which can be compressed or scratched easily are called soft while some other materials which are difficult to compress are called hard. Cotton and sponge are hard and iron and coal are hard materials.

2. On what basis materials are grouped together?

Ans.Materials can be grouped together on the basis of s imilarities or differences in their properties. Classification makes the study of prope rties easier. It can be located easily if grouped in particular manner.

3. What is solubility? Give two example of each solubl e and insoluble in water?
Ans.The ability of solute a to get dissolved in to a so lvent is called solubility. Some common substances soluble in water are sugar and salt. The substance insoluble in water are petrol, chalk etc.

4.Define malleability and ductility?

Ans. The property of matter due to which it can be draw n into thin wire is called ductility. The property of metals due to which it can be beate n into thin sheet is called as malleability.

5.Why do metal’s objects loose their luster after a w hile?
Ans.Metals object loose their luster after some time du e to reaction with oxygen and other gases to form metal oxide. These metal oxide change the colour of the metal surface.

6.How are transparent objects different from opaque o bjects?

Ans.Those objects through which object can be seen but not very clearly are called translucent object. Butter paper, thick sheet of pl astic are example of translucent objects. On the other hand, those objects through w hich light do not pass are called opaque object. Woods, bricks etc. are example of op aque objects.

7.What are miscible and immiscible substances? Give e xample.

Ans.The liquid that mix with water are called miscible and those which do not mix with water are called immiscible substances. Vinegar, l emon juices are miscible and petrol and mustard oil are immiscible substances.
